Scripture Reading:
“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” – Psalm 82:3
God’s Heart for Justice
From Genesis to Revelation, God reveals His compassion for the oppressed. He is a Father to the fatherless and a Defender of the vulnerable. Today, human trafficking represents one of the greatest injustices of our time. According to the International Labour Organization, more than 27 million people are enslaved worldwide through forced labor, sexual exploitation, and coercion.
Behind these staggering numbers are real people—children, women, and men—crying out for deliverance. Their cries echo the same suffering that God’s people endured under Pharaoh in Egypt. Just as He heard them, He hears the cries of victims today.
Our Response as Followers of Christ
Psalm 82:3 does not offer a suggestion; it’s a command. To “defend the weak” means we cannot ignore suffering. We are called to act on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves.
That doesn’t always mean traveling across the world or joining law enforcement. It may mean learning about trafficking in your own community, equipping yourself with knowledge to identify red flags, supporting local ministries, or simply interceding faithfully in prayer. God does not overlook small acts of obedience.
A Call to Prayer
Prayer is not passive—it is warfare. Every time we pray, we partner with God to push back darkness and release His kingdom on earth.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, open my eyes to the reality of trafficking around me. Break my heart for what breaks Yours. Use me—my prayers, my words, and my actions—to defend the oppressed. Raise up workers, leaders, and churches to bring light into the darkest places. In Jesus’ name, amen.
