The Good Shepherd Seeks the Lost

Scripture Reading

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?” – Luke 15:4

The Shepherd’s Relentless Pursuit

When Jesus told the parable of the lost sheep, He revealed the heart of God for those who wander. In a culture where shepherds valued every sheep, losing even one meant danger, loss, and heartbreak. Yet the shepherd did not accept the loss—he went out searching until he found the one.

This is the love of Christ. He does not give up on the lost, the broken, or the forgotten. His mission is not about statistics—it’s about souls. Each life carries eternal value, and heaven rejoices when even one person returns to Him.

Today, countless individuals are “lost” in very real and painful ways. Human trafficking preys on those who are isolated, vulnerable, and unseen. Victims often feel forgotten by society—but they are never forgotten by God. The Good Shepherd sees them, seeks them, and desires to bring them home.

Our Call to Seek the Lost

As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect the heart of the Shepherd. This means being willing to notice the one, not just the ninety-nine. It means moving beyond comfort zones to pursue those who are hurting.

Reflecting the Shepherd’s heart looks like:

  • Awareness – Learning to recognize the signs of exploitation and injustice.

  • Compassion – Seeing individuals not as problems to be solved, but as people to be loved.

  • Action – Engaging in prayer, advocacy, and service to help bring the lost back to safety and dignity.

We do not seek alone—Christ empowers us with His Spirit to join Him in this mission.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,
You are the Good Shepherd who seeks and saves the lost. Today, we lift up those trapped in trafficking and exploitation. May they feel Your relentless pursuit and know they are not forgotten. Give us eyes to see the one who is hurting and courage to reflect Your love in action. Amen.

Action Steps

  • Notice the One – Pay attention to the people around you who may feel overlooked. Offer encouragement, kindness, or prayer.

  • Learn and Share – Read about how trafficking affects your community and share one fact with a friend or family member.

  • Support Rescue Work – Partner financially or prayerfully with ministries and organizations working to seek out and restore the lost.
